PARCA - Provincial Association of Residential and Community Agencies
Our purpose is to promote, support and enhance the quality of community based justice services and programs in British Columbia, for the benefit of the community and in the public interest. We do so through::
- Advising governments about issues involving clients and service providers
- Advocating for humane and effective criminal justice
- Representing the interests of service providers on government committees and initiatives
- Sharing information between governments and the membership
- Providing public information and education
- Encouraging innovation and service quality
- Promoting the development of principles, standards and research-based best practices
- Encouraging research and evaluation
- Encouraging exchange among First Nations and non-aboriginal justice programs
We enjoy a healthy relationship with federal and provincial Ministries and agencies charged with community justice. Our Board meets at least quarterly, and most meetings include discussions with liaison representatives from among Correctional Services of Canada, the National Parole Board, the Ministry of Solicitor General, Corrections Branch and the Ministry of Children and Family Development. For several years we have hosted, together with MCFD, a series of regional and provincial youth justice conferences. We have also represented community justice interests at larger community social service sectoral tables.
